Anchor Brewing Co, Merry Christmas & happy New Year 2006. 5.5 abv. SF, CA USA. Spicey one. 15 out of 20.

Hook Norton, Twelve Days. 5.5% abv. UK. Delicously dark and strong. 19 out 20. This one could become a habit.

Goose Island IPA. Chicago, USA. Solid 18 out of 20…

Meantime Pale Ale. London, UK. 18.5…

Theakstones Old Perculiar. UK. Not so much, 14.

Modelo, Especial. 4.5%. Mexican. Amber ale. Nice one. Boxing day was mexian at our place.

Breakspear, English Pale Ale. Oxfodshire, UK. 4.2%. Light but not hoppy enough. 12 out of 20.

Bath Ales, Wild Hare, Pale Ale. 5.0% ABV. UK. A nice golden citrus fresh an hoppy with a dry finish. 16 out of 20.

So, the focus was British and American craft brews with a sweet Mexican thrown into the mix. To be honset we had way mucho french champagne as well!

Still have 2 mixed cases of brew left and a Fullers Vintage Ale for New Years!

Happy Holiday and Merry New Year from the doc… I need a beer checklist system. How many different beers in 2008? My guess is about 100. But I will try to add them up.

The Tank recently went to British Columbia to stay in Vancouver and then Kelowna with plenty of ignorance and after a week can report back with great excitement about the number of tasty brews being brewed there.

As I was doing some Daddy Day Care, I wasn’t actually able to get to visit any breweries and so my research was purely arm chair and virtual.

The one brewery that interested me the most but sadly I wasn’t able to try was Crannóg Ales. They currently don’t do any bottling and have a limited distribution but from the following description you can probably understand why the Tank wants to give these guys some serious attention at some point.

Crannóg Ales is Canada’s only Certified Organic farmhouse microbrewery, one of only a handful of such breweries in the world. We brew unfiltered, unpasteurized ales using only organic ingredients, some of which come right from our own farm.

Of those that I did try Phillips Brewing, Victoria and Cannery Brewing, Penticton were my favourites followed closely by Mt. Begbie, Revelstoke. I also tried Tin Whistle, Penticton which was fine and was disappointed with Granville Island Brewing, Vancouver. On a previous visit to Kelowna this year, I was able to try the local Tree Brewing but this visit was about sampling as many different beers as possible.

Here’s a list of my favourite beers I was able to sample:

Cannery Brewing, Anarchist Amber Ale

Mount Begbie Cream Ale

Mt Begbie High Country Kolsch

Philips Amnesiac Double IPA

Phillips Black Toque Indian Dark Ale

I came across the Craft Brewers Association of British Columbia after all ready having put in some hard graft but as you can see from the screengrab below they seem to have all the good ones signed up.
