Christoffel – A Friday Night Blonde

What a lovely mistake.

As part of the ongoing deep dive research, I grabbed a handful of what I thought was Belgian beer and by mistake grabbed a Christoffel Bier now called Blonde.

As this is a whole new area of tasting, still don’t feel qualified to rate this but can say it’s tasty and will have it some more. ratebeer is currently giving it a 86.

Terrapin Golden Ale @ The Whitehorse

The Tank had the opportunity to sample another one of the wonderul Terrapin Beer Co. brews with the Golden Ale.

It was certainly as tasty as expected but I was surprised that the Dark Star Sunburst burned through my memory as being the benchmark for a Golden Ale and so was slightly dissapointed.

Saying that, the Tank would try again and again this brew and if you see it, make sure to give a go.

Simply this is a great bottled beer five stars *****. St Peter’s also does an Organic Ale that is very tasty. One of these days muct organise a tasting of all the St Peter’s range…

Tasting Help – Sunburst Is It

German was on hand from Vancouver to help in making an important decision. What beer was going forward in the Golden Ale category for Beer of the Summer 2008?

First order was to see how the Darkstar Sunburst did against the award winning Hopback Summer Lightning.

And the result was that in a nudge and a wink, Sunnurst took it and is the victor. Impressive considering the competition.

In celebration we ended up at the Evening Star in Brighton, East Sussex which describes itself as:

The Theme pub, where great beer is the theme

We tried various other beers but it was getting hazy at this point, one that stood out was the Rye Pale Ale from the Terrapin Beer Co, Athens Georgia.

Beer of the Summer Qualification – Golden Ales – Dark Star SunBurst Takes It

Well, well….just did a blind taste and in a big surprise Dark Star SunBurst has come out swinging and has taken out the Hammerpot. Previously, the Tank was loving the Madgwick Gold and that’s why this a big surprise.

Beer of the Summer Qualification Round – Golden Ales

The Beer of the Summer Taste Off 2008 is still some ways away but the Tank thought it might be good to start working on the qualification process for what tasty beer he’s going to take through to the finals.

After some pondering at the bottle shop, I settled on putting a couple of Golden Ales against each other. There’s a few other cotenders in this division but for this round I settled on the:

Following on from the news of Lewis Hamilton and Goodwood Festival of Speed, it’s only fitting to have a beer that celebrates the Madgwick Cup and Goodwood corner.

This is one easy drinking (half-pinter first sip) Golden Ale…nice tangy bitterness with some gentle hop uplifts.

Definately, goes onto the list for Beer of the Summer 2008.
