The Times reports the exciting news that Real Ale sales in the UK are climbing according to SIBA.

While crap beer sales fell approx 7.2% in Q2 2008, Real Ale sales have increased 8.1% over the first 6 months.

This increase is take from SIBA’s figures on it’s direct distribution from smaller UK Brewers to 3,000 odd pubs. Still, rock and roll. Maybe soon I won’t have to get nasty to people when they are in a good pub and order something that shouldn’t even be given to dogs to make them drunk.

Again as part of the hunt to find somewhere near Victoria Station ended up visiting the Thomas Cubbitt – which really is more of a bar than a pub.

Saying that, they did have Little Creatures and I’m sure some other excellent beers which makes it worth going back to check it out some more.

During the recent Victoria raid, which coincided with the need to find some decent places near Victoria Station in London, came across the Horse & Groom.

And what’s not to like.

It’s a Shephard Neame pub that is quite small with some outside space on a mews in Belgravia.

It might be a litte too far away to be the place but it is a contender and would give it the thumbs up to others to drop in.

Have recovered enough to finally write something, will follow with posts about a couple of places we made it to.

Anyway, main thing is that as Doc and myself are often leaving from Victoria these days, we decided it was time to do some research and find some drinking holes down that way.

Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast

Was on the bus this morning re-reading the Independent from yesterday and read an excellent article about the Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast. Apparently, this pub from the early 1800′s has stood tall through thick and thin with even IRA bombs blasting around it.

Kudos’s to regulars there!

If I ever make it to Belfast again, then I’ll be putting in a visit to this historical drinking hole.

On Friday we decide to have a business meeting at lunchtime at The Florence – a gastro brew-pub. Yummy mummies, but even more yummy beers… Including a micro brew, brewed on site. The lovely Weasel. To be continued. Have a great weekend.
